Black Open Your Wallet Wide Friday

Black Friday – Been there, done that, now home…..

Guh – It’s “Black Friday”, commercialism's dream come true.

So, last night hubby and I sat up with the computer following release times for a special deal that started at midnite…. then it was reset to 12:45, then 1:30 then 2:00 – then I let the dog out and turned the lights off.  When we got up at seven – we had missed it.  Damn website.

What did I just ramble?  What I’m trying to say is we followed a deal that was supposed to be released at midnight – the website crashed.  We kept trying; it kept giving new release times for the deal and crashing.  When we’d get back on, it would tell us things will automatically update when they are available, but then you’d hit the button to purchase when they were “available” - it would think for a few and then you’d get an error message, or nothing at all.  We gave up at 2:00 am.

This morning, we got up and went to a local store that wouldn’t be frenzied (because we live on the east side – no one comes this direction), to get a wall mount for a third of the cost, today only.  Why?

Well, BEFORE “Black Friday” there was a sale, we went and came home with a large TV, which now apparently requires that it have a new wall mount, sound bar, blue ray player, etc……. I was unaware of these requirements and really, the old TV was already quite large.  But I was bamboozled.

Hubby said – wouldn’t it be nice to have a big TV in our fabulous basement, so when the boys came over we could watch soccer down there?  It would.  So now there is - plus several other accoutrements – scattered above.

Oh, and we never found another deal to match the one from the crashed website – guess that new toy will have to wait another year.  Pretty sure we can live fine without it for now…right dear?

Fluffy, Cold and Early

Well, I guess Mother Nature has made a statement – BBQ season is officially over.   Bummer.
I guess it’s on to holiday gorging season we go….

Actually, she made this statement precisely ten days ago – but I was having a hard time getting it through my head that snow was sticking to the ground on November 15th.  Not only did it stick to the ground, it stayed until the next day.

Doesn’t the ground usually stay warm for a few weeks after the cold hits and when we have the first “big” snow it all melts?

I mean, we live in Michigan – we should know a little something about snow.  But nope – it fell and it stayed – already, in mid-November – way, way, way before the “Dream of a White Christmas”.

Now it seems we are going to have a White Thanksgiving.  They tell us this weekend is going to be a doozy.  Normally I wouldn’t worry, but since the ground is already cold enough to be an ice arena, it should be interesting – perhaps a snowman building contest will be in order over the holiday weekend?

Yeah, that sounds ok – or better yet, we could build snow pilgrims and snow turkeys!  Has anyone done that before?  Quick search of the internet finds me this masterpiece (I’m guessing anything we build would be quite primitive in comparison).  I think that it’s made with a boot print – ingenious!

So, if you are in the States, or celebrating outside the States, we wish you a fabulous Turkey Day and a fridge full of leftovers!!  Just remember, only cook the things you like, why bother with anything you don’t – Traditions be damned.

May I offer a start?  How about the retirement of the bizarre creamed green beans with those weird formerly crunchy, turned soggy, onion things on top?  Yuck.  What 1970’s Betty Crocker high sodium kitchen cook came up with those?  And why are they still on the table?  The Pistachio green fluff went away, isn’t this from the same era of bad concoctions of ready made canned items and boxed goods?

Anyway, have a great holiday – travel safe, try to enjoy the family, eat well and don’t worry about the calories – you can take that issue back up in the first week of December – AFTER all the whipped cream and pumpkin pie is gone!

Enchanted Forest -vs- WWE

Enchanted Forest – 1
WWE – 0

Ok, I’m not sure what happens in our yard during the night, but apparently (as it should be), the power of the Enchanted Forest cannot be overtaken by the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment).

How do I know this?  Well, the pair of legs you see appear to be those of the Rock, of WWE fame (he’s an actor too).  And the Rock seems to be a bit in distress.  His body is stuck under the fence, like he was crawling to get away and just laid down on his face to rest a moment. After all, it seems he was overpowered by my backyard garden Gnome.

Yes, you know we have a Gnome or two around the house, I wrote about the boys in the front of the house earlier this year (“Gnome Fell Down” posted 4/24/13).  Hmm, do you think the WWE guys had anything to do with them falling down?  Like the Rock was using their rope for climbing training?
Anyway, this is the scene I saw when I went outside that morning and rescued the Rock from his precarious position on the ground, under the fence.  The Rock is on the ground in the left hand bottom corner, you have to look carefully.  There is no doubt who won this one!

The much bigger Gnome is just sitting on his swing smugly looking on (his rope isn’t breaking like the others did – no way, you’re not using me for climbing practice)!

The boys of the WWE should know better, like the Enchanted Forest ever loses a battle.  Despite how much you work those muscles, look at my Gnomes legs – he could crush you in an instant.
Just stick to the flash and dazzle of the indoor ring boys and stay out of nature.  Seems so obvious, doesn’t it?
